Genesis, Hyundai’s New
Beginning
Marking a new beginning, Hyundai
Motor Co. announced Genesis as the official name of its eagerly
anticipated luxury sports sedan. Benchmarking and bettering the
competition, the Hyundai Genesis redefines luxury by presenting
a credible alternative to the premium automobile offerings from
Germany, Japan and the United States.

Adopting a rear wheel drive
architecture and numerous technical innovations, Genesis opens a
new era of high performance Hyundai motoring.
At the same time, the company has
unveiled the Genesis emblem consisting of the Genesis logotype
set in a black hexagonal shield framed by a pair of wings. The
wings, executed in a hyper-metallic silver, symbolize the spirt
of flight and soaring above it all.

With Genesis, Hyundai opens an
exciting new chapter in its 40 year-long history to compete at
the very highest levels of the automotive business.

At the pinnacle of the Genesis
motoring experience is the all-new Tau V-8 engine which will
deliver 375 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed
automatic transmission. Hyundai's silk-smooth V-6 Lambda
engines will also be offered in 3.3- and 3.8-liter editions.
Hyundai pledges excellence at every step of the Genesis
ownership experience from purchase to delivery and after-sales
service.

Hyundai’s
Sonata- Sounds good!
The Hyundai
Sonata is a comfortable and good-looking midsize sedan. Like
most vehicles in its class, the Sonata offers front-wheel drive,
numerous safety features and a choice of a four or six cylinder
engine. However, touches such as a two tone dashboard and
abundant metallic trim pieces spruce up its interior and set it
apart from the rest.

Playground
Inside
The Sonata has
enough interior room to meet the definition of a large car. That
means it is roomier in almost every dimension than most of its
mid-size competitors, with the edge in creature comfort. A
polished, hard-surfaced appliqué underlined with a thin slice of
chrome divides the upper and lower halves of the dash. The
stereo is fully integrated into the dash, and audio and air
conditioner controls are substantial, finger friendly knobs and
buttons, with status and selections clearly displayed in their
respective displays.
Safe Hands
Safety features
on all Sonatas include standard dual airbags in the front. The
optional airbags include seat side airbags in the event of a
side impact; and full side curtain airbags designed to provide
head protection. Antilock brakes (ABS) with Electronic
Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are standard on all models but
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and traction control come as
standard equipment on the fully loaded model.
Good Looks
The front of the
Sonata is refreshingly clean and spare, sharply-angled headlight
housings give the Sonata an aggressive look. Wide openings
beneath the front bumper are a cozy home for the focused fog
lamps and in turn give the car a lower stance. 16 and 17 inch
wheels wrapped in high performance tyres give the car an
athletic look, and ensure that you get a confident ride. The V6
comes with dual exhaust tips that stick out and give other
drivers a hint of the power available under the hood.
Power on Tap
The Sonata comes
in two different engine sizes. The 2.4 litre four cylinder
boasts 162 horsepower, which may not seem much, but coupled with
Hyundai’s engine management the car is quite the contender! The
V6, on the other hand, flaunts a notable 243 horsepower, which
launches the car to 100 in 7.5 seconds — quick enough
considering that the Sonata is not built to be a racer.

Tucson Fuel Cell Vehicle Aces Challenge Bibendum
Only fuel cell vehicle to earn a
perfect score
Hyundai Motor Co.'s Tucson Fuel
Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) triumphed in this year's Challenge
Bibendum held in Shanghai from November 14 to 17. Competing
against teams from Daimler AG, GM, Nissan, Tucson FCEV was the
only fuel cell electric vehicle to get a perfect score.
"This result once again confirms
that Hyundai's fuel cell technology is among the front-runners
in the industry ," said Kwon Moon-Shik, Hyundai's senior
executive vice president responsible for advanced technology.
Team Hyundai scored victories in previous editions of the
Challenge Bibendum.

Challenge Bibendum, created by
Michelin in 1998, is a competition for the promotion of
sustainable road mobility which covers four performance test
parameters: noise, fuel efficiency, pollutants and CO2
emissions.
Introduced in 2004, the Tucson FCEV
is Hyundai's second generation fuel cell electric vehicle. It
can reach a maximum speed of 150km/h and has an operating range
of 350km using a hydrogen storage tank pressured at 350 bar. The
heart of this 21st century vehicle is a 80kW fuel cell stack
developed by Hyundai.

Hyundai is currently operating two
fuel cell test fleets, one in the United States and one in
Korea. Hyundai is partnering with UTC Power, Chevron
Texaco and the U.S. Department of
Energy in a program which calls for the supply of 32 fuel cell
vehicles. In Korea, Hyundai is supplying the government
ministries and agencies with 34 fuel cell vehicles, including
four buses.
